Blossom

August 23, 2008 on 10:57 am | In cool colors, fixed width, gray, neutral colors, two columns, white | No comments

screen shot of BlossomBlossom was designed by Sadish Bala of WP Themepark. Soft, mauve-y colours, a hibiscus flower adds a flourish to this clean and tidy theme. Sadish’s designs tend to work well across browsers and screen resolutions.

Blossom - well, it’s about Spring, growth, abundance, and beauty - suggesting a suitable design for travel related sites, or the more obvious nursery or horticultural world; however we can see the theme working for the health and healing sector as well. WP MagaPress has a quiet strength and we can see that appealing to bed and breakfasts, landscapers, gardeners, diarists, kennels, cattery, wildlife artists, small hotels - people where the understatement is more than statement enough.

screen shot of KukuspringEric [Kukuthebird] Sim’s Kukuspring is part of a series inspired by the four seasons. Eric is a self-professed, ardent fan of fake-vector art, and this theme features sakura (plum) flowers, painstakingly drawn in Photoshop; combined with subtle gradients. He writes - “This theme portrays undying hope and passion. Hope springs eternal.” The theme was ported to WordPress by Grab a Theme.

Perhaps a theme for jewelers, therapists, florists, wedding planners, bridal outfitters, spiritualists, beauticians - for lovers of the elegant; the eternal believers in undying hope and passion. Choose ‘kukuspring’ from Themeleon - our happy theme shifter.

01-Dragee

August 4, 2008 on 2:57 am | In blue, flexible width, header image, light, neutral colors, pastel, two columns | No comments

screen shot of drageeA dragée (pronounced dra-ZHAY) is a classy name for a sugar covered chocolate candy. You know, like ‘M&Ms’. In this instance, 01-Dragee is Julian jez Klewe’s rather sweet theme. According to his web profile, C. Julian jez Klewes is a 23 year old student from Germany. Living in Kempen, near by Düsseldorf, he studies International Business and Management Studies at Fontys in Venlo, the Netherlands. In the past years he published different kinds of work on the web and did freelance designing, as well as consulting and researching.

01-Dragee is used here ’straight out of the box’ and some of the images are not always playing nicely with the text. They will play nicely on your web site. If you like the layout but want to use your own image (instead of the dragée) in the center that’s easy to change. We think 01-Dragee would be great for pharmacists, sweet shops, bed and breakfasts (B&B), small hotels, for people in the hospitality, medical, or education businesses - looking for crisp and cool concepts. Choose ‘01-dragee’ from Themeleon - our happy theme shifter - and see how sweet it is.

WordPress Classic

August 1, 2008 on 5:38 am | In flexible width, gray, light, neutral colors, two columns, white | No comments

It's _the_ classicWordPress Classic is the original WordPress theme. It graced versions 1.2.x and prior. WordPress has come a long way since Dave Shea designed, and Matthew Mullenweg modified, this clean and elegant layout. Only the barest minimum has been defined - the useful variable width, two columns, and neutral gray colours. Of course, the colours can be refined to create your very own classic. We’re tempted by those Morris Minor colours - imagine (from 1948 to 1953) Platinum Grey, Romain Green, Black, Maroon, Mist Green, Gascoyne Grey, Thames Blue, Clarendon Grey, Empire Green, Birch Grey, and from later, Sage Green, Smokey Blue, Rose Taupe, Antelope, Pale Ivory, and Sandy Beige. Colours that defined a generation, a nation, an empire.

We see the WordPress Classic theme being used by people seeking a sophisticated and classic air - where their work can be complemented by neutral (but never bland) tones. Jewelers, book binders, designers, embroiderers, fine food purveyors, writers, therapists, lawyers, accountants… the list goes on. Choose ‘classic’ from Themeleon - our happy theme shifter - and see how to add a classic touch to your web communications - and as ever - adapting the design to your business cards, signage, and other communication forms is an option.
