Identity is a dark colored theme fully validated for maximum readability and designed by Jai Nischal Vermaand. The charcoal-y and soft beige colors complement the cream text background. Soft and easy on the eye, while not sacrificing any readability.

Internet Music

Internet Music is designed by Luka Cvrk, and WordPressed by Ericulous from a style sheet by David Herreman. Another great WordPress collaboration.

We like the rust-red and grays colour combination, set off with the dash of cornflower blue. Makes us think of red cattle – paprika, and charcoal – hey – this is more about barbecue than music. You decide how you’ll use this theme. Of course the subheader can be customized – unless you have a special thing for Latin-ish. Well, no, we didn’t think so either.

Internet Music themes will show off black and white photos, or images with dark items – laptops, cameras, engine/car parts etc, or scenic shots – blue sky, blue water; splashing, flashing marlin.

Zip It is another theme by the prolific designer, Small Potato.

The delicious buttery yellow reminds us of all those old National Geographics stacked up in attics and garages across the world. Tidy, but never bland, and with a clarity of the type usually reserved for better quality magzines. Zip It, we love it.

Smashing Theme

Smashing Theme was designed by Elena Gafita from the DesignDisease team. Here’s what Elena had to say about her design when she talked to Smashing Magazine:

“Creating a WordPress Theme isn’t easy but I can’t call it yet a NASA Job. The theme I created for Smashing Magazine was a special task for me because I read this magazine every time they have something new so I wanted to give something back.

After I found out what Smashing Magazine team expects from this theme I got started by selecting the color palette. After this point I created the layout style and placed the background straps modular along with the layout areas. This choice was motivated by the fact that Smashing Magazine is a feed, a flux of information represented by the size and colors of the straps. Colors are — of course — inspired by the Smashing Magazine logo.

Every designer who creates a free theme must know the importance of the AdSense integration in the layout; therefore I’ve divided the content area in 3 sections (columns). Each of them for a specific AdSense unit (468 x 60), (180×150), (160×600).

In my themes I always try to make a clear visual separation between the Posting area and the Widget zone (2nd and the 3rd column). In this case I achieved this effect by creating a strong visual contrast: white for the written post (to ensure the optical silence for readers) and colorful/darker areas (active vibrant content motivates users to click on those surfaces) for the numerous categories, links etc.

Another fact which I care about is the space around the main content (posting area). The flux of information must breathe, so a 20/30px white space between information units is necessary. The space left between the different areas must be used as a module, repeating the spaces in key zones of the layout.

One of the most difficult tasks in designing a theme is to find a style for it. A unique style helps a blog to stand out from simplistic and minimalistic designs. I don’t have anything against minimalist style, but as a designer I feel I can express myself in a more colorful way.”

Blue Zinfandel

Blue Zinfandel is by Brian Gardner. A couple of choices are available – two columns (choose ‘blue-zinfandel-2c’ from the Themeleon) or three columns (choose ‘blue-zinfandel-3c’ from the Themeleon).

The Zinfandel family are presented with clean, timeless lines and a pleasant combination of serif and sans serif font consistent with a crisp, classical feel.

It is possible Blue Zinfandel is named for the grape commonly grown in California, originally the Croatian Crljenak Kaštelanski grape. Zinfandel makes excellent table grapes, wonderful red wine, however, in the USA, it is the white wine that is the biggest seller.

Ad Clerum

Ad Clerum was designed by Nat of Theme Terminal. “Ad Clerum” is a Latin phrase which means: “To the clergy.”

Ad Clerum is a perfect theme for churches or other non-profits, however the refined and conservative appearance suggests fine art galleries, finance, legal, politics, or the professions in general. Xplosive Reloaded

Xplosive Reloaded was designed by Jai Nischal Verma. It contains a very interesting and innovative concept – your visitors can pick the colors they want your information presented in – red (satin), gold (autumn), blue (aqua), or green (prairie). WP-Andreas01

One of the ‘granddaddies’ of themes, WP-Andreas01 is a simple and clean template with a classic theme, designed by Andreas Viklund, a blogger, web designer and music producer from Jokkmokk, northern Sweden. Andreas writes – “This was the first website template I ever released, and it is still the single most popular of all my templates since the first version was released in July 2005. Since then, the template has been updated and improved several times. Beside the default 3-column layout, two different 2-column layouts (left or right sidebar) and a custom print stylesheet are included.” The header image can be replaced with one of your images.

jd-desert

Available in two or three columns, John Doe’s desert theme makes use of an image of desert. We can’t decide if it’s the Sahara, the Gobi, or the Sahel – no matter, the dunes look amazing. It is said that no-one crosses the desert and remains unchanged…

As with many of John’s themes, they are available as two and three columns – your choice – whatever works best for you.

Limit was designed by Jai Nischal Verma. It’s a simple and elegant, lightweight theme (which means it loads quickly, not that the theme is feeble in any way), and the sidebar allows for two columns – effectively a four column design. The rounded corners and reflection at the foot of the page reduce any impression of severity. Nice. The image of the horses can be replaced with one of yours as part of the customization.

FluidYellow

FluidYellow has been released by Romow Web Directory.

Soft yellows and golds, coupled with the use of gray text, and consistent rounded corners and indented paragraphs make this theme subtle without being bland. 3c-Black-LetterHead is based on Robin Hastings‘ Letterhead, with CSS colors modified by Ulysses Ronquillo, and adapted by Hakan Aydin’s into a theme using a three column layout. It uses the default Kubrick theme as a base.

2colours

The full name of this theme is 2coloursExtended 3.0 and it has been coded up by miloIIIIVII. It’s another approach on a magazine-like three column fixed theme with some custom painting and an intelligent PHP menu by The undersigned. Give the menu a try – it works rather well.

2colours is used here ‘straight out of the box’ and some of the footer content is including the standard Flickr feeds etc. This can be customized or removed for your web site – everything will play nicely on your web site. We think 2colours would be great for rock bands or musicians, freelance journalists, writers, street artists, creative agencies, e-news, online magazines, the quirky and the fascinating. jd-nebula

Available in two or three columns, John Doe’s galactic theme makes use of an image of the Horsehead nebula, possibly from Hubble. In 2000, some 5,000 students, teachers, and professional and amateur astronomers across the internet voted to select this object for the orbiting Hubble telescope to view.

From the constellation Orion to your web site, thanks to John’s themes. We loved the design and layout, in fact we customised a three-column version for Get Going Online.
