How long does it take to get my new web site?
The basic set-up takes about 24 hours. If you know what you want on the pages, and you’ve got the digital images handy, it takes just a few hours to be up and running. Having a well organised plan outlining what you want on your pages makes all the difference in terms of getting going online effectively.
How long have I secured my new web site for?
Your domain name and web site are secured for a two year period. At the end of two years you will have a choice of renewing the subscription for as little or as long as you like. We recommend two years as being a reasonable compromise between keeping flexibility up and overall prices down. We have no indication of the prices in two years time; however to date, in real terms, the prices over the last ten years have gone down - we’re paying much less for much more space.
I have an existing domain name, can I use it?
Yes, if you have access to the dns numbers - we have to be able to tell the domain name servers (dns) where to point. Our package is based on securing your domain name for two years - however, if you have an existing name it stays the same and if you have purchased a domain name for five years it will run for the remaining time.
I have an existing web site, can I use the same web host?
Possibly - it will depend on the services and software the hosting service makes available. Generally free hosting that comes as part of an internet access package is unsuitable. Our package is based on securing your web hosting for two years - if you have existing web hosting it will stay the same - for example, if you have purchased hosting for a year it should last for that time. Please note - there is no guarantee your existing hosting will be usable for a Get Going Online installation, however we’re more than happy to check for you. If your current hosting is all good then let’s get going.
Can I call on your services for further assistance - for upgrading, backups etc?
Yes, please do. From the start we will teach you how to manage your web site. Our plan is that we hold nothing back - you will be fully independent, however, if you require further support our services are available on an hourly rate.
Can I use my own theme, or a commercial theme?
Yes, absolutely. There are some excellent commercial themes available - click here or here to view more details to get your creative juices flowing.
WARNING: Many of the ‘free’ themes available at 3rd party ‘gallery’ sites require you to advertise goods and services unrelated to your business, while others maliciously conceal encoded script payloads serving more sinister purposes including phishing, spam, viruses, hacking gateways, and/or hijack attempts. We exercise caution about the themes we select, and we strongly urge you to do the same.
Is the web host good? Really good?
The servers are running Linux with Apache 2.x and are strategically located in the USA; fair and square on the Internet backbone, using three OC48 fibre connections. Ultra-reliable, and ideal for for managing high volume voice/data/video traffic flows. We’ve used it for four years now, and found the service exceptional. Automated daily and weekly backups, robust security systems, and 99.9% uptime - you don’t ’see’ this stuff, but it makes a world of difference to making web site operations smooth and secure. Unless you have exceptional resources at your fingertips you simply can’t have the same degree of professionalism for the money, even with your own server.
